Biography Notes

Grant McNeill could well be one of Boolarra and district's local legends – a man who pops up anywhere and everywhere raising funds, organising events, providing governance and even strumming a guitar when called upon.

Born in Putaruru, New Zealand in 1958, Grant’s early schooling followed his schoolteacher father’s postings around a number of primary schools. Secondary school was completed at Rangitikei College, with a year of tertiary schooling at Massey University before moving to Australia in 1978. Grant returned to education to obtain his Masters in Housing Policy and Management through the Swinburne University Institute of Social Research in 2003.

Grant has an impressive pedigree in community work, with a history of involvement in community and sporting groups, event management and executive committees. Grant has been involved with the ARC Yinnar arts organisation for more than 20 years, local competition cricket for more than 20 years and has served on various other committees including the Boolarra Primary School Council and the Boolarra Memorial Park Management Committee.

His hobbies are also artistically based. A guitarist and singer in various folk and rock bands over many years, Grant now plays for 50th birthday parties…. truly reaching the pinnacle of his musical career. A keen bushwalker and telemark skier, he appears to have an adventurous spirit.

He works with Quantum Support Services in Traralgon as Manager, Housing and Support Programs providing management, policy and planning for housing and community development programs in Gippsland. His work history since the early 1980’s centres around the delivery of good housing and tenancy services thereby assisting people of all ages, abilities and social advantage.

Grant’s specialist skills include well developed communication and public speaking abilities as well as excellent project development, management and report writing skills, amongst others.

Grant currently lives in Boolarra with his wife and family.
